もう一つ書き忘れていました。電話で「少々お待ちいただけますか」というときの、丁寧な表現です。

電話でいう「お待ちください」は、"Please hold." と言います。何を hold しているかというと、the line（電話回線）で、これはよく省略されます。でも "Please hold." だけだと、相手はイラっとしますから、理由を付け加えます。

Would you please hold while I check?
Please hold. I will check and be back with you shortly.
I would like to check with my supervisor. Would you hold?

一人目と電話で話していて、二人目から電話がかかってきた場合。
Would you please hold? I'm on another line. I will be back with you.

頻繁に使われる自動応答メッセージ。
Please hold while I transfer you to a representative.

カジュアルに言うなら。
Can you hold just a minute?
Hold on. I'll be right back.
