scope は意図とか目的のニュアンスが強く、extended は直線的に伸びたイメージなので、この場合には合わないです。文法的には間違っていません。
The exam will cover a wider range than previously announced.
The exam will cover more pages in the textbook.
The exam will cover more topics.
