なぜtoがつく？

Question

even though Hawaii is one of my favorite places to travel to , in general I prefer countryside, the forest ,or the mountains more than the beach.
上記の文において、なぜtravelの後にtoがつくのでしょうか？

travelは旅行するという意味の自動詞で
〜に旅行すると言うにはtravel toと言うからです。
goと似ています。

I often travel to Hawaii.
Hawaii is my favorite place to travel to.

I often go to the library.
The library is my favorite place to go to.
