最初の部分ですでにつまづいています。
I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.
言いたいことはわからなくなないのですが、とくに、in what will go down in historyで、in whatて何？godownて何？て感じです。最初のこの一行が腑に落ちないと先が全く入ってきません。
私を赤ちゃんだと思って文法を細かく説明していただける方よろしくお願いいたします。

1は、つまり I am happy to join in something that will go down in history
と言っています。what はその something ということについての主格の関係代名詞となっています。go down in history というと、歴史に名が残るとか、歴史上で意義があることとして記憶に留められる、というような意味です。
2は、どのように、何として歴史に名が残るか、ということを言っていて、
3は、どの歴史に名が残るか、ということを言っています。
