形容詞句、副詞句の順番について質問です。
形容詞句と副詞句の並びについて頭がごちゃごちゃになってきたので質問させてください。
例えば
"We looked at the pictures in the museum for several hours."
という文章があったとするとin the museumがthe pictures(名詞)に修飾する形容詞句、for several hoursがlooked(動詞)に修飾する副詞句だと思うのですが、
We looked at the pictures for several hours in the museum.
という並びにできないのはthe pictures(名詞)とin the museum(形容詞句)が切り離されてしまうから・・・という理解で正しいでしょうか?

I've searched about rules for precedence about adverb and adjective but I couldn't find decisive explanation. so I'll introduse you some of findings on the web.
