数学の「場合の数」の英訳を教えてください。

もやもやしていたものがスッキリと晴れました。

Probability (確率)の話ですね。
「.....場合の数」
the number of ways (of 動詞ing, または that.....)
the number of events (of 動詞ing, または where.....)

例えば、こんな問題はいかがでしょう。
Find the probability of getting a sum 9 from two throws of a dice.
一個のサイコロを二回投げて和が９になる確率を求めよ。

Let S be the sample space.
S をサンプル数とする。
Let E be the event of getting a sum 9.
E を和が９になる組み合わせとする。

In two throws of a die, S = 6x6 = 36
E = {(3,6),(6,3),(4,5),(5,4)}

Probability (P)
= n(E) divided by n(S)
= 4/36
= 1/9

Probability of an event happening equals the number of ways that it can happen divided by the total number of outcomes.
ある事象が発生する確率は、それが発生する場合の数を、結果の総数で割った数に等しい。
