現在形と現在進行形の違い

I'm studying 〜. という現在進行形の表現が使われることはわりとよくあると思います。ただ、若干あるニュアンスとして、それが臨時的なことである、という感じもあります。例えば「I'm studying English literature in London this year.」という感じで、期間限定っぽく使うことが多いような気がします。
大学で英文学を専攻しています、ということを言うとすれば、I'm an English lit major (at 大学名）. というように名詞として言うこともできますし、I major in English lit. とも言えます。

逆に、I study 〜. という現在形で言うと、いまのことというよりも、一般的にそういうことをするということについての表現になります。
A: Should I study English lit at university? My dad tells me it's a waste of time and money.
B: I think it's a great choice, and you can also combine it with other genres such as gender studies. which will give you lots of opportunities to broaden your horizons. Go for it!
