You know that I just started here last month and I have no idea where to obtain past data.

where to～となっても文法的に正しいですか？

～and I have no idea where I can obtain past data
or
～and I have no idea to obtain past data
だと理解できるのですが、where to なる理由がわかりません。
どなたか詳しい方ご教示ください。

正しいです。疑問詞の後に不定詞が続く形で、名詞句になります。主語が明らかなときに使えます。

how to (verb) どうするか

what to (verb) 何をするか

where to (verb) どこでするか

when to (verb) いつするか

which to (verb) どちらをするか
（あまり使いません）

who to (verb) 誰に対してするか
（厳密には whom という単語がありますが、実際には who をよく使います）

書き直している初めの文は正しいですが、２番目は間違っています。

正
I have no idea where I can obtain past data.

誤
I have no idea to obtain past data.

正
I have no idea how to obtain past data.
