that節のなかにthat節？
I thought that if the teacher weren't a Japanese person that there would also be things about Japan that they wouldn't know.
この文について質問です。
that が３つあり、2つめまでは接続詞、最後のthatは関係代名詞だと思います。
I thought に続くthat 節の中にさらにthat there would 〜が入っているように思えるのですが、
I thought がなければ、
If the teacher weren't a Japanese person , there would also be things about Japan that they wouldn't know.
となり、2番目のthat はいらなくなりますよね？
前にI thought をつけると、there の前のコンマをthat にしなければいけないのでしょうか？
マトリョーシカみたいな構文で混乱しています。

英文が間違っています。２番目の that はあってはいけません。直します。

I thought that there would also be things about Japan that the teacher wouldn't know if they weren't a Japanese person.
ご質問から外れますが、「teacher」が単数なのに、代名詞が「they」なのは、性別が無関係だからです。ここ20年くらいの傾向で、無性別三人称単数の代名詞として「they」を使います。単数でも、続く動詞は複数の「they」と同じものを使います。
