theの付け方がイマイチ分かっていません
例えば以下の日本文を英訳しました。theの付け方でおかしなところを解説いただけませんか？可能であれば英訳全体もお願いします。

「現況 status」が気になったのですが、過去の話ですから、変ではないですか。さっき発生したばかりの事故なら、「現在の状況は… the current status is…」と言えると思いますが、この文章は事故から何か月も、何年も経ってから書かれたのですよね。それとも、日本語の「現況」は、もっと意味の範囲が広いのでしょうか。分からないので、勝手ながら「記述 descriptions 」に変更しました。
定冠詞 the の使い方ですが、すでに相手が知っている特定のものや、関係代名詞などで限定されるものに the をつけます。
北海道の「警察本部」は、正式な英語名があるのかもしれませんが、調べなかったので、固有名詞とせず、小文字の the police headquarters にしています。
