verdictの使い方
もうこれは２，３日前のPBSの記事になりますが、その日の裁判を終えようとしたときの判事(he),陪審員(they)
の動きを描いたものだと思いますが、最後のreceivedは陪審員が主語ですからdecidedかreachedのような動詞に
なるべきではないでしょうか。
They were going to go at 4:30 and be dismissed. And then, minutes later, he came back in and said,
actually, the jury has just passed me a note saying they have received a verdict.

そのように思います。私もこれを帰宅中のラジオで聞きました。予想外の早さだったので、慌てていたようです。口から出る言葉は間違いがたまにありますが、意図は伝わるので、この程度なら問題にはなりません（日本語も同様）。このリポーターが判事の言葉を一字一句、正確に報道したとは思いませんが、あえて直すなら次のような可能性があります。
Minutes later, he came back in and said, “Actually, the jury has just passed me a note saying they reached a verdict.”
