「能力」を表す英語がたくさんあることについて
「能力」という意味を表す英語はability、capacity、competence、competency、faculty、capability、facilityなどたくさんあってそれぞれニュアンスが違うようですが、そもそもなぜ英語では「能力」を表す言葉がたくさんあるのか、どう使い分けられてるのか、そして逆に日本語ではほぼ「能力」という言葉１つで済んでしまっていることによって日本語話者の思考が影響を受けていないかを知りたいです。異なる言語の間で、同様の言葉になぜバリエーションがあるのか、それによって各言語で思考が違うのではないか、という関心は、どうやって調べたらいいのでしょうか。

I have been having the same issue, too.
If you wanted to say something negative you could find much number of words and phrases than finding positive ones. And each of them has its own meaning and unique connotation.
You would find the subtle difference between two similar words only in the contextual aspect, so all we could do is to read more and find it out.
