動詞が形容詞的働きをするとき-edになるか-ingになるか？

動詞を分詞として形容詞のように使うには、現在分詞（-ing）と過去分詞（-edなど）があります。
どちらを使うかは、その分詞が修飾している名詞について、分詞として使っているその動詞が普通の文か受け身の文かで決まります。

The police officer investigated the incident.
→ I read about the police officer investigating the incident.

The incident was investigated by the police officer.
→ I read about the incident investigated by the police officer.
