和訳してください！またセミコロンがある意味も知りたいです！

セミコロン ; ですが、今はほとんど使われません。
英語の授業なんかでは、セミコロンは文と文を繋いで（AでBだ、AだけどBだ、AだからBだ）などと言いたい時に使え、と習います。
All the adults would stay up drinking; kids would be sent to bed.
Those who succeed in this competition will proceed to the final in Italy; their travel expenses will be covered by the sponsor.
しかし、現実にはもうほとんど使われず、適切な接続詞を使って２つの文を繋ぎます。

That child is smart; she talks as if she were a grow-up.　
あの子は頭がいいね。その証拠にまるで大人のような話し方をする。

というような意味になると思います。
