After he graduated from college, he traveled around the world. の文は graduatedでわかるのですが、Before he graduated from college, he traveled around the world.はなぜgraduatesではなく、graduatedなのでしょうか。時制を合わせるとかそういうことだと思うのですが、完全に理解できません。よろしくお願いします。

どちらの文章でも、完全に過去の話です。彼は卒業したが、問題はその前に旅行したのか、後に旅行したのかである。

別の状況ならば、graduatesも使えますよ。

He is spending the year abroad and only graduates in two years.
------------------------------------------and will only graduate in two years.
------------------------------------------and only expects to graduate in two years.
He is taking time off to travel this year, but graduates next year.
----------------------------------------------------but still has plans to graduate next year.
