非制限用法について

「the+名詞」が先行詞のときでも、非制限用法を使いますよ (nonrestrictive clause)。その先行詞について、情報を追加したいときです。関係代名詞を使わずに、別の文にしても構いません。

We might want to wrap up the meeting, which we expected to last for only half an hour. We’ve been talking for more than two hours.

関係詞以下の条件がつくことで「その…」と共通認識に当てはまるようになる場合には非制限用法にはしません。
元々一つしかないわけではなくて、その条件に当てはまるものは一つしかないからtheがつくように認識できる場合です。
theがつくことでこれから説明すると暗に言っていることもあります。

訳す時にも制限用法のときは形容詞のように「〜な先行詞」とするのはそうしないと「この先行詞のことだ」とわからない時もあるからです。
非制限用法のときはandで繋がったように訳すのはその情報、条件がなくてもわかるからです。
