kicked blanket の意味は？

This is not a piece of advice to you I'm talking to myself for my practice of writing skills. I'd have searched this proverb on the web I couldn't find nothing but two comments. I suppose it'd mean some treatment/affection for horses in cold temperature such as in winter. I can't grasp it precisely. as a reference only. if you'd get some solutions please post it.
