Question

海外の刑事ドラマで、刑事2人が犯人を追うシーンがありました。
刑事の1人が銃を抜いて「I've got the shot! I've got him!」と叫び、相棒が「No! Don't!」と止めていました。
ドラマの内容からして、一人が俺が撃つ！と言い、もう一人が止めているという感じなのですが、それにしてもI've got the shot! とは何だろう？とモヤモヤして検索にかけてみましたが納得いくような結果が出ませんでした。
テキストだけ見ると、私には「撃たれた！」と言っているかのように見えるのですが、実際撃たれてはいません。わかるかたがいたら教えていただきたいです。

shotには射程圏と言う意味があるから
この刑事の銃弾が届く距離に犯人がいて、
障害物もなく、発砲したら撃ちとれる、という意味。
そのあとのI've got himも同じ感じ。
