Plenty of courage, I see. Not a bad mind, either. の意味は？

Question

日本語訳では「勇気にあふれている、頭も悪くない」となっているのですが、
BothではなくEitherを使っている理由が分かりません。
言いたいことはわかるのですが、both かeither を当てはめろ、と言われれば何を基準に判断すばいいかわかりません。

both… and… と、either… or…を考えておられるようですが、ここの either は、日本語の「も」の意味で、否定文に使われます。

A: I like apples. Do you?
B: I like apples, too.

A: I don’t like oranges. Do you?
B: I don’t like oranges, either.

David has plenty of courage. (He is) a bright student, too.

David has plenty of courage. (He is) not a bad mind, either.
