セミコロンの論理関係

この場合の semicolon は、
２つの文があって、お互いに対比などの関連がある場合、接続詞（and, but, or, nor, for, so, yet など）の代わりに使われています。

It is no good to tell him the truth, but it’s worse to deceive him.
= It is no good to tell him the truth; it’s worse to deceive him.

セミコロンは文語的な文でよく使われます。
