earn wages/money, know/find out about
次の2つの文章でより適切なものはどれですか？またなぜですか？
①I believe today's younger generation are more attracted by the flexible working hours than by the thought of earning money/wages
②Before I travel to a new country, I always take the time to find out about/ know the local customs and rules.
私見ですが、
①は、earn wages 自体は文法の誤りではないが、主に肉体労働に伴う賃金のことを指すため不適切。
②は事前に調べておくという意味で、find out が適切。
という理解であってますでしょうか?

②はそのご理解でいいですが、①は英文が変です。直します。
I believe today's young generation is more attracted to flexible working hours than competitive wages.
元の文のように、flexible working hours と thought of earning money の二つを比較するのは変です。前者は職場のルールで、後者は誰のものかも分からない thought です。もともと比較するような二つではありません。
また、wage は肉体労働の賃金に限りません。デスクワークでも wage を稼ぎます。salary と違って、wage は時給の額と考えましょう。flexible working hours と比較するのに適切なのは competitive wages でしょう。
