the word "molt"

the word "molt" or "moult" has the meaning (of birds, mammals, reptiles, and arthropods) to shed (feathers, hair, skin, or cuticle). I'd like to express the birds shedding feathers, I suppose there'd not be the differences of nuance between birds' feather shedding and reptiles' skin shedding on monolingual dictionary. in the case of birds they'd change down and feather other than skin in the case of reptiles they'd change skin/outer-coat. please teach me the expression or another word of the birds' feather shedding.
